| Oral Surgery (Extractions) |
| One of the main goals of dentistry is
to prevent tooth loss. All possibilities should be explored
to preserve and maintain the tooth prior to the removal
of a tooth, as the loss of a single tooth can have a
major impact upon your dental health. |
|
| Unfortunately, it is sometimes necessary
to remove a tooth, due to: |
- Severe decay
- Advanced periodontal disease
- Infection or abscess
- Teeth which are in the wrong position
- Broken or fractured teeth
|
| |
| Teeth Impacted (frequently wisdom
teeth) |
| Wisdom teeth, do not always grow in the
correct position,. It is wise to get them checked and
if appropriate have incorrectly positioned teeth extracted
before they cause pain, infection, and gum disease.
The flap of gum tissue that covers a partially submerged
wisdom tooth also provides a great breeding ground for
bacteria that can cause long-term gum problems. |

Procedure |
| Having a tooth removed doesn't have to
be traumatic. An anaesthetic is used prior to the procedure
to make you more comfortable. After the extraction,
there can be some tenderness in the surrounding area
which is normal. There are certain risks associated
with any surgery. Pain, bleeding, broken root tips and
bone are possible risks, however every possible is taken
to reduce these risks. |
